Tired of waiting to get on line? Well you still have to wait but now you can
use your computer while waiting. Dialer is a back ground program that will
dial up to 5 numbers while you continue to use your computer. When Dialer
gets thru it will sound a short alarm, you can then load your modem program
and your ready to go. You can enter a new list for Dialer any time or stop
it by pressing RETURN when it asks for the first phone number.
If you have a copy of QMODEN.FON (dialing directory file for QMODEM by John
Friel III) on the logged drive, Dialer will display the first 44 entries on
the screen. You can select from the list by entering the directory entry
number or enter M for the manual phone number entry screen. If QMODEM.FON is
not on the logged drive the manual entry screen will be displayed.
Dialer can be installed to your taste. At the DOS prompt type DIALER INSTALL
This will bring up the installation screen. You can specify the modem
initialization string, the dialing prefix, redial delay time, baud rate,
parity, word length, and stop bits for Dialer to use. Dialer will then write
a new copy of itself to the logged drive with the parameters you set. These
can be changed any time but only the dialing prefix and redial delay will be
used other than the first time Dialer is loaded (at least till you reboot).
The communication parameters can be change any time with the MODE command
or by your modem package.
Dialer works even better with Program Shift (or Memory Shift). Load dialer
FIRST, using no phone numbers. Then load PShift (reinstall if necessary). Load
your favorite modem package in one of the partitions, switch to another parti-
tion and run Dialer entering the phone numbers you want to use. When you hear
the alarm just switch to the partition you loaded your modem package into.
Dialer will also work while your in your modem package waiting to get on the
first board that becomes avaliable.
Enjoy!
